Well, that was 2021...
It's been quite a year. The most significant event was our microbrewery going from a part time gig to my full time job as of September. Still based on my old employer’s site in Dunkeswell, we’ve now grown from one shipping container to 2 – with works scheduled for mid-Jan to convert the second container to a larger cold store and dedicated packaging space. This means the first container will now be a dedicated brew space – with increased room for future tanks. Vigo will be carrying out the works, with a top quality temperature control system meaning improved consistency across our range. We still intend to produce our small batches, but hopefully we’ll be putting out new beer more regularly in the form of our Bare Bones Kegs. Expect to see these regularly on the bars of our friends at Maltings Taphouse, Ebdon’s and Pig & Pickle over 2022. We also have our own van now, so deliveries will no longer be crammed into my family car.
The search for a premises for our taproom continues, but we have now found a potential site with discussions ongoing to see if we can make it work for us (further details to follow if/when this progresses). The dream is to open a small place showcasing a range of South West drinks alongside a strong complimentary local delicatessen - finger’s crossed this is the year we make it happen!
We’ve continued to receive recognition and awards for our beer this year, Jester (our Jester dry-hopped pale ale) picking up a one star Great Taste Award and Drifting Beyond being recognised by Food & Drink Devon with a silver. This means our core range is now all Great Taste Award winning and we have achieved Great Taste Producer status – no small thing for a brewery of our size!
Launching in to 2022 we hope to grow our business to a stage where it is financially self-sufficient in supporting a small team and be in a position to really give back to the communities we’re involved in. If we can end the year a bigger team that continues to Brew Good and Do Good, we’ll be happy!
